چکیده
(2015), Normocalcaemic hypoparathyroidism: prevalence and effect on bone status in older women. 3 turnover markers, PTH and 25D measurements were provided free by Immunodiagnostic Systems (Boldon, UK). Abstract Objective: There are no consistent data on the prevalence and bone status for normocalcemic hypoparathyroidism (NHYPO) as defined by normal adjusted calcium and low PTH level. Our aim is to determine the prevalence and the bone metabolic profile of NHYPO in older women assessing its evolution over the time. The second objective is to evaluate the prevalence of the other calcium metabolic disorders. Design: The Osteoporosis and Ultrasound Study (OPUS) is a 6-yr prospective study of fracture-related factors. Participants: a total of 2419 older women (ages 55-79) and 258 younger women (ages 30-40) participated. Complete follow-up data are available in 1416 subjects. Measurements A J the PTH M D different pathological categories using reference intervals from the healthy young women.

متن کاملSymptomatic hypocalcemia in a patient with latent hypoparathyroidism and breast carcinoma with bone metastasis following administration of pamidronate.
Pamidronate is an effective drug used not only in patients with tumor-associated hypercalcemia, but also in normocalcemic patients with metastatic bone disease to relieve pains. We describe a 39-year-old normocalcemic patient with subclinical hypoparathyroidism and bone metastasis due to breast carcinoma. Following parenteral administration of 60 mg pamidronate, the corrected serum level of cal...
متن کاملChange of Bone Mineral Density and Biochemical Markers of Bone Turnover in Patients on Suppressive Levothyroxine Therapy for Differentiated Thyroid Carcinoma
Untreated hyperthyroidism and high-dose thyroid hormone are associated with osteoporosis, and increased bone mineral density (BMD) has been demonstrated in postmenopausal females with hypoparathyroidism. Studies on the effect of suppressive levothyroxine (LT4) therapy on BMD and bone metabolism after total thyroidectomy in patients with differentiated thyroid carcinoma have presented conflictin...

متن کاملNormocalcemic versus Hypercalcemic Primary Hyperparathyroidism: More Stone than Bone?
Introduction. Normocalcemic primary hyperparathyroidism (NPHPT) is considered a variant of the more frequent form of the disease characterized by normal serum calcium levels with high PTH. The higher prevalence of renal stones in patients with HPTP and the well established association with bone disorders show the importance of studies on how to manage asymptomatic patients. Objective. To compar...
